Ethics Chairman Michael Guest, R-Miss., had filed a resolution before the Thanksgiving break to expel Santos from Congress. When the House returns on Tuesday, Guest could move to force a vote on his resolution later in the week. Earlier this month, Santos easily survived an effort by his fellow New York Republicans to oust him from office. Speaking to reporters in Sarasota, Florida, Johnson said "it remains to be seen" if there will be an expulsion vote this week. "I will stand for expulsion," Santos said on X Spaces.

The effort to expel GOP Rep. George Santos is picking up after a damning Ethics Committee report released Thursday. And if it happens, Santos' expulsion could lead to a hotly contested special election in New York. That special election must occur between 70 and 80 days after the proclamation is issued. It appears a special election would not involve a primary, but rather that members of the county party committees would select their nominees. Two other Democratic candidates who are among the top fundraisers include former state Sen. Anna Kaplan and Army veteran Austin Cheng.

CNN —Much remains unknown of course about the presidential general election whose traditional kick-off will come one year from today on Labor Day, 2024. Twenty states have likewise voted for the GOP presidential nominee in all four of those contests. That means 40 of the 50 states, or 80%, have voted the same way in four consecutive presidential elections. In the presidential elections of 2012, 2016 and 2020, though, the states where the margin of victory landed within four points of the national vote total dwindled. And each time, experts and those close to Trump have predicted the proceedings could energize his supporters and the Republican base. On Dobbs, the national exit poll showed 27% of voters picking abortion as their No. And remember that our final NBC News poll found Trump as one of the most unpopular political figures we measured, especially compared with President Biden. In each state, those Democratic secretaries of state nominees were running against Republicans who cast doubt on the 2020 election result. Two of those five feature Democrat vs. Democrat contests, thanks to the state’s Top 2 primary, so those will stay in the Democratic column.

Most GOP nominees who have denied or actively cast doubt on President Joe Biden's 2020 victory have some shot at winning in November, largely because many of them are incumbents. NBC News has identified at least 272 GOP nominees for House, Senate, governor and Secretary of State who have denied or cast doubt on the 2020 presidential results. HouseAbout 78% of House GOP nominees who cast doubt have some shot at winning, per this analysis. Ron DeSantis overpowered his own Legislature to pass a map that adds an additional four GOP seats.
